Liptov is located in the north of Slovakia and its northeastern part touches the Slovak-Polish state border. It has one of the most picturesque natural scenery in Slovakia. It is bordered from the north by the Great Fatra, the Chočské vrchy ridge and the West Tatras ridge. The southern border of Liptov is formed by the Low Tatras ridge, its western border is formed by the Veľká Fatra ridge. The Kriváň peak in the High Tatras is the most beautiful in the eastern tip of the Liptov region. The Black and White Váh rivers originate in Liptov, the confluence of which forms the longest Slovak river, the Váh.
